Here are some of our favourite patterned tiles from our Esher, Barnes and Kingston showrooms. We hope they provide some inspiration!
Encaustic Cement Patterned Tiles
Encaustic tiles were first made in Europe in the late 19th century. They were used to decorate the floors of palaces in St. Petersburg, Gaudi’s distinctive houses in Barcelona, and grand hallways from Paris to Saigon. Today they are found in countless chic bars, restaurants and designer-homes in London, Paris and New York. Our collection of hand-made decorative tiles are made using the ‘encaustic’ technique with cement where the pattern is inlaid into the body of the tile, so that the design and colour remain, even as the tile wears. These differ from ceramic tiles, where the surface pattern is the product of the finishing glaze printed on the surface. We have a huge range of encaustic tiles to choose from in our Kingston, Barnes and Esher showrooms a few of which are pictured below. If you’re looking for a luxury pattern tile, this range could be perfect for you.
Monochrome Patterned Tiles
It wouldn’t feel right without a special mention of my personal favourite patterned tile (pictured below). Part of our encaustic range, the rhythmic, circular design looks exquisite when paired with classic vintage interiors, adding flair and personality to a home. I am (as well as many, judging by the latest trends) monochrome mad at the moment!
Mixed Patterned Tiles
There are also more cost-effective, high quality patterned tiles available that look fabulous without breaking the bank. This is one of our favourite patterned porcelain tile ranges, consisting of 9 patterns each in 3 different shades resulting in 27 different tiles. Choose your unique combination of colours and patterns or mix them all! A marvellous balance between vintage and modern creates something absolutely beautiful. The range comes in two finishes: satin (a matt feeling) and wet and shiny (bright gloss effect). We are in love with the way they’ve been used in the images below to create a feature sitting area in an open plan living space and a feature wall in the bathroom – gorgeous use of the patterned tile!
Star Patterned Tiles
This collection is another one of our favourites, designed by the incredibly talented interior and furniture designer Francisco Segarra. This is an expansion of the designers popular black range with the addition of these seriously on trend colours – Blue, Oxide and Sage. They come in a 45×45 cm format with a natural finish. We are big fans of Segarras approach to design, a true pioneer of fashionable living, adding that something special to homes and commercial spaces across the world.
Victorian Patterned Tiles
Quintessentially British, these geometric floor tiles are ideal for both the restoration of Victorian and Edwardian properties and for embellishing feature areas within modern style properties. The large range can be used to create some stunning patterns, including this Dorchester pattern in Dover White and Blue (below right) with modified Kingsley border. Again, we have a ginormous variety of victorian ranges to choose from. Pop into one of our showrooms in Kingston, Barnes or Esher to discuss the multitude of customisable variations!
Neutral Patterned Tiles
A popular range of eclectic designs that have been inspired by arts and cultures from around the globe. Inspiration has been drawn from traditional tiles, rugs and ancient art, however, these designs are anything but old fashioned. They have a modern feel with an urban edge. The range boasts a cement-effect with a slightly aged, worn looking surface and an air of chic European city style about them. The repeating patterns in one colour way provides a subtle understated look for floors and walls. But they have also been designed to all work together in an elegant medley or melange. The choice is yours!
We hope this has been a useful read! Please pop into one of our showrooms in Barnes, Kingston or Esher to check out our patterned tiles and talk through your patterned tile project. We love talking tiles (and especially patterned tiles)!
